Our Why: Why We Are Sharing Our IVF Journey #IVF4ON

My husband and I have been on our fertility journey for years, and during this time we experienced how isolating fertility treatment can be. As a person with a rare chronic illness, secondary conditions, and an ileostomy, I fully understand how important advocacy and awareness is to promote change and understanding. Soon after the birth of our first daughter, we knew that we didn’t want to be silent anymore and that is when we started to share our story. Thanks to Conceivable Dreams we have had the opportunity to share our story.

We have been fortunate to receive Ontario’s IVF funding in hopes to continue to grow our family. We truly believe in this program and that fertility is a medical condition. We hope by sharing our story from the life changing phone call we received from a nurse at our clinic stating that we were eligible for a funded cycle to now as we prepare for our frozen embryo transfer that we are revealing how significant a funded IVF program is. We believe that if people learn why a funded fertility program is needed, and the possibility funded fertility treatment has that the program in Ontario will continue to grow and will impact other medical funding models.

For the past couple of weeks, we have been preparing for a frozen embryo transfer. I am full of excitement, hope, and am incredibly nervous. I have so many hopes and at the same time am filled with fears. I desperately want our baby to continue to survive in me once we have our transfer. At this moment, as I write this, all of our embryos are frozen and staying exactly as they are, they are safe, and we are safe. Once one is thawed and the transfer occurs their future is unknown and we will anxiously await full of hopes and dreams of what we hope is happening, what we hope will be.

As thrilled I am about the transfer, I worry about the two week wait. We have had unsuccessful transfers, and we have had loss, but I hold onto the hope. It only takes one embryo; our two year old daughter is living proof. I practice my affirmation, Please baby thrive and grow. Let us continue to be your parents.
It only takes one embryo; our two year old daughter is living proof.
And then I remember that already our current frozen embryos have already changed our lives, we are their parents. We have been part of their growth from the moment of conception and we are grateful because our embryos, our babies have reminded us about the miracle of life, the beauty in the world, and our dreams to grow our family.

My husband and I are sharing our journey because we believe in the power of sharing stories. As our fertility path continues we hope it inspires others to share their story or at least find comfort in knowing that they are not alone.

Yours Truly,
